One of the most fun and memorable weekends of the year so far was a weekend away to the Gold Coast. We were lucky enough to check in at the amazing QT Hotel Surfers Paradise for the length of our stay.

The QT Surfers Paradise is a unique hotel to say the least, and everything you need is there on site. The grounds themselves are luxurious and spread out, there’s a gorgeous pool area – and a couple of amazing restaurants and bars at your disposal. Being just north of Surfers, it’s out of the hustle and bustle but also close if you want to walk to Cavill Avenue and surrounding restaurants.

We enjoyed the high tea offering on the first day – it was a well thought out experience, where the savoury was disguised as sweet and vice versa. Here’s a shot from my Instagram here. Another highlight was the breakfast buffet which was probably the most amazing buffet of my life to date! Gourmet breads (and everything else for that matter) and every kind of meat, cheese, egg, donut, pastry, sausage, juice, breakfast item you can imagine – and more. People who weren’t staying at the hotel were also lined up to experience the divine breakfast at QT Surfers Paradise.

The pool area is lush and it’s a great place to relax with a book or have a few afternoon drinks. We actually made up a few drink which consisted of: vodka, lemonade and grenadine – yum yum. The rooms were a real treat with ocean and pool views… I am scared of heights but love being high up in a hotel. It reminds me of home in Sydney – my current flat is 16 stories high!

Going to the Gold Coast with my partner who’s English makes me realise how overlooked it is as a destination… he appreciates the warm weather, close proximity to Sydney and the affordability. Not many Australian’s think about the Gold Coast as a holiday destination, due to the perception of being tacky or just a ‘schoolies’ thing.  There’s no stigma for him which is nice and it makes me see the Gold Coast in a new light! It’s quickly getting up to speed in the fashion stakes too, with Pacific Fair having a revamp and stores like Zara and H&M opening. Not to mention some trendy bars and restaurants at the casino.

Whilst we were visiting the Gold Coast it did rain on and off, and it made the weekend all the more charming. There’s something nice about the rain when you’re in a warmer climate. You have to entertain yourself with shopping or movies or cocktails – which is fine by me.

Our weekend away in QLD was made all the more special by our stay at the QT Hotel and I would not overlook this as the best place to stay whilst visiting the Gold Coast! You can book your stay here or through various booking sites.

Happy travels.
