It’s officially mid-way through the year I partly ticked off one of my new years resolutions this past week. Over the past few years a busy lifestyle has taken over and my fitness and exercise habits have sufffered as a result. Being time poor it’s easy to make excuses not to exercise but I’d really been missing how fit and active I used to be.

I don’t really post fitness gear or these types of posts but I hope that will change now that I’ve kicked started my regime again and feeling motivated. This last 7 days I’ve participated in a fitness challenge set by Citi and have been tracking the results through a Fitbit blaze.

Having just done 7 days wearing my new Fitbit Blaze, I can honestly say I’m feeling lighter, and more energised and ready to get back to my healthy lean self. Here’s a little run down on my progress and where I got to:

Day 1

Yikes – I don’t know how to use this Fitbit Blaze but I better start moving! Challenge accepted and looking forward to achieving my exercise goals which are: feel lighter and re-energised in general, start a new exercise program I can stick to, tone up, and ultimately feel good again.

Day 2

A record breaking 20 thousand something steps! A good first day. To be honest it was a hectic day of meetings and running around town so this was no surprise. Let’s hope I can keep it up.

Day 3

Headed to the Central Coast and did a 1.5 hour walk with my parents. It’s so nice exercising in winter! I’ve missed long coastal walks and coffee as a reward at the end. Also tried a green smoothie at Common Ground Long Jetty. Amazing!

Day 4

Went to the gym with my dad, did rowing, running, weights and bike – feeling good. Had a protein ball at the end and realised they actually taste pretty good.

Day 5

Got back to Sydney, and forgot to wear my Fibit but actually went to the gym and got a lot done. Darnit! I’m loving the feature on the Fitbit that tells you when to go to sleep at night. You can also set alarms of various sorts to track progress.

Day 6

Second last day, did manage to do anything ground breaking in the exercise department because I was chained to my desk – but that’s OK we all have those days.

Day 7 –

Feeling great! Didn’t clock up as many steps in my last few days as I would have liked, but managed to sign to a new gym which is closer to my office and home, and also cemented an exercise schedule into my daily routine which I’m adamant not going to break. The only way is up from here!

You can get your own complimentary Fitbit when signing up to Citi’s Platinum Rewards Card here. Thanks for letting me take part in the challenge!

TIPS ON HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED

1. Set realistic goals (like exercise 3 x a week not 7)

2. Don’t think it will happen overnight – or be disappointed when it doesn’t. It’s about the journey!

3. Find a workout partner. I’ve just signed up to the gym with my friend Lee and it’s really helping.

4. Go to About Life and stock up on healthy snacks. It helps to have supplies when you’re tempted to eat bad.

5. Have fun with it. Do the exercise you enjoy doing and it won’t feel like a chore! Bike riding or swimming are great to feeling like you’re not doing too much, when they’re really a great workout.
