Central Coast To Do Guide

The last two weekends I’ve spent re-exploring my hometown, the Central Coast.

So much has changed from the days when I was kicking around as a teenager. I lived here for 22 years growing up, and it’s definitely a case of home is where the heart is. The coast is a more happening place nowadays. My friend Helen and I found ourselves having lots of fun shooting, eating & drinking coffee (and slushies) the past weekend. It made me start thinking about my top five things to do on the Coast, if you ever happen to find yourself there! Read on below… xx

1. I’ll start with the obvious one: Hit the beach. My favourites are Forresters Beach – a combination of calm & rough (also where I grew up). Pelican – open and quite remote, good for surfing. Last but not least Spoon Bay for a summer holiday vibe.

2. Go for coffee. There’s plenty of options for a good latte on the coast – spoilt for choice really on the coffee front. One of my favourites is Green Room Espresso in Wamberal for a relaxed cortado outside and a salty ocean breeze. The Long Jetty area is also a hotspot with Glass Onion Society, Green Tangerine & new addition Gothem. The latter reminding me of something out of New York City. Terrigal will always have some old faves too like Bellyfish & Cove.

3. Try some lovely cuisine. The new gem of a place I love is called Common Ground. So glad I found it (my mum did actually). It’s an earth to table concept with the most delectable beef brisket. The focus is on slow cooked meats and salads. There’s also a to die for five course degustion including pulled pork lasagne made with rice paper roll sheets. This is what I would recommend. It’s well worth the $50 p/head. Where can you get a degustation menu this good in Sydney for the same price? I say nowhere.

4. Buy some new threads. Designer Forum in Terrigal or Country Road at Erina Fair are winners. There’s also plenty of vintage shopping around Long Jetty. Beautiful Garbage has been around for years and has some good finds. You can also peruse Avoca Beachside markets for mostly new stuff, or grab a bargain at Terrigal car boot sale. Top bloggers are known to sell their old clothes here.

5. Movies! The Entrance cinema is $12 entry to see a film and most of the latest releases come here. It’s charming but don’t expect the most comfortable chair!
